Be prepared. One of the best things you can do before your first visit is to prepare. Just like other types of medical professionals, physical therapists need a complete medical history, explanation of symptoms or problems, list of medications, and other doctors or medical professionals. It can be helpful to write down some questions you may have for the therapist and even bring a family member or trusted friend to help absorb the information and ease nerves. Be sure to ask what type of clothing the therapist would like you to wear, as you may be starting some exercises on the first day.

After arriving the physical therapist will most likely ask you a lot of detailed questions about your health and any issues you have. They may even ask about your home and work environments, activity level, and habits or routines. Be specific and honest. Know that they are not there to judge you, only to help. They will then perform a detailed exam that may include how you walk, how you use your body for different activities, and how you get up from a sitting or lying position.

Michael Milnes loves talking to new clients to help them reach their goals.
